We are already on Day 2 of the “Annual Stonewall Walk to School Week”. We started off a bit rocky as we tried to get used to the new course we had to take due to the construction. Thanks to all of the car lane parents for their patience and understanding as we walk the kids across the entrance and the exit to the school parking lot!
The kids are having a great time walking the loop and at the end of the walk, we have snacks provided for them from the Stonewall PTA. There has been a bit of a breakdown in the communication, so I wanted to update everyone on Walk to School Week. We are trying something a little new this year. The kids that get their Walk to School paperwork stickered each day this week will be able to attend a party in the gym on Friday, October 18th. The folks from Better Bites will be coming to Stonewall and they will be bringing hula hoops, jump ropes and music for the kids to enjoy. As the kids are leaving the party, they will be given a healthy afternoon snack.
Stonewall PTA is proud to be able to offer these opportunities to the great kids of Stonewall! Be sure to talk to your kids about the Walk to School papers they were given. There is a place to list their favorite healthy snacks, activities, etc.
The 2013-2014 school year is off to a great start. Even though Stonewall Elementary is going through major renovations, the year has started off well. We just wanted to give you a few reminders:
1) There is no parking on Cornwall on the same side of the street as the school.
2) Schools buses will be loading and unloading on Cornwall. When the buses are there, you can not pass. Please keep in mind the safety of our students and wait patiently for all students to be loaded and unloaded and for the buss driver to put down the STOP sign. If you pass a school bus that has the STOP sign up, you will be ticketed and fined. Even worse than that, you risk the safety of our students and staff.
3) It is great to see so many parents parking and walking children to the school this year. If you are driving near the school, please keep a close eye on the small pedestrians in the area. It is your responsibility to yield to the pedestrians in the school zone.
4) When coming up the hill on Cornwall towards the school, please do not block the crosswalk located at Beth Lane. Please be sure that the crosswalk is left open and accessible to the pedestrians at all times.
Again, thanks to the parents, students and staff for a successful start to the 2013-2014 school year. We are looking forwards to great things this year!
