We have three candidates for the Site Based Decision Making Counsel (SBDM) for the 2014-2015 school year. This position will begin this August and run through the end of next school year, and we need two parent representatives.  Parent representatives are responsible for attending monthly SBDM meetings and discussing and creating policies which impact our children’s educational day at Stonewall. The SBDM representatives also are responsible for sharing these decisions with the Stonewall PTA at monthly meetings.

Please read about the candidates below.  We need 2 representatives. Elections will be held on May 15 from 6-8 pm in the cafeteria (during Science Night). Parents that cannot make it school on May 15 can use the ballot they received in email and turn it in to the office. Please return ballot no later than May 9. All absentee ballots must have the voting member’s name on it to be sure we have no duplicate ballots and that every voter is an eligible Stonewall parent. Please vote for TWO candidates. If you need a physical copy of the ballot, they will be available in the front office.

Angie Kerrick
I am the mother of a 7 year old boy (Ty Kerrick) that will be entering 1st grade at Stonewall next year. During his kindergarten year, I have served as an Executive Officer on the Stonewall PTA and filled the position of Vice President of School Events. In my duties, I oversaw the Walk to School Week Celebration and the Stonewall’s Got Talent Show, while assisting on other events and working on the newsletter and Facebook page. I served on the SBDM during the same year and felt that I contributed by researching all matters prior to voting and trying to make the best decision for the students and family of Stonewall. Before voting on the budget changes that were being handed down from Central Office, I attended the Community Budget Meetings and heard from many other parents, teachers and students about the cuts. Throughout the year, I have many times spoken to other parents about their children’s progress at Stonewall and the matters they felt were or were not working. I personally have a great interest in Special Education and Diversity within the classroom.
During the week days, I am the Office Manager at the Child Care Council of Kentucky. I oversee daily office operations and our corporate wellness program, plus work on our marketing, social media, fundraisers and special events. I have my Child Development Associate and I have recently been credentialed as a Trainer of Early Childhood Educators and provide Professional Development hours through the Child Care Council of Kentucky. I am also working to obtain my license for providing First Aid and CPR training.
Even with my full time job, I try to get into my son’s classroom whenever I can. I have been a parent reader numerous times and have put together a Family Friday event for his classroom, in addition to attending each party and joining the class for lunch whenever I can. I look forward to continuing my time on the SBDM and would appreciate your vote.

Shannon Seltsam
My name is Shannon Seltsam, wife to Tim and proud parent of JT and Natalie. I graduated with honors in Business Finance from the University of Kentucky. Prior to having children, I was a bank manager for National City.  Currently, I work part-time as a restaurant manager at the Coffee Pub.  But my most challenging and rewarding job is being a parent.  I seek out opportunities to get involved in my children’s activities and am excited to be a part of SBDM because their education is my top priority. I have enjoyed being a classroom volunteer, homeroom mom, and Academic Team coach here at Stonewall.  As a family, we are active in South Lexington baseball, Musikgarten, Girl Scouts, KBA basketball, and Southland Christian Church, where Natalie and I volunteer in the nursery. I have a good network of friends and fellow parents here at Stonewall so I am well informed of parent opinion on issues facing our school. I would appreciate your vote so I can be a voice in SBDM.  Thank you.
